BioAktiva is a South African soil-health company built on a single, stubborn idea: most growing problems start in the soil, so that's where the fix has to start too. Our flagship product, SaproGro™, is a low-dose liquid soil activator made from ancient freshwater sapropel — designed to rebuild the living foundation your plants depend on, rather than just feed them and move on.

The problem beneath our feet

South Africa has some of the oldest, most leached soils on Earth. Decades of standard NPK fertiliser, irrigation and cropping strip out organic matter, starve the microbes that make nutrients available, and lock up trace minerals. The result is soil that needs more and more input to deliver less and less — tired soil, running on empty. BioAktiva exists to reverse that, one application at a time.

What is sapropel?

Sapropel is an ancient organic peloid deposit that forms slowly over thousands of years at the bottom of freshwater lakes — the accumulated remains of plants, plankton and minerals, decomposed over roughly ten thousand years into a dense, biologically rich material. It carries organic matter, humic and fulvic acids, amino acids, enzymes and a broad spectrum of trace minerals. SaproGro™ returns that profile to your soil at low dilution, so the soil's own biology can do the work it's meant to.

The company behind SaproGro

BioAktiva is the brand of Fertile Acre (Pty) Ltd, based in Paarl in the Western Cape, and part of the wider Fertile Acre group. We source our sapropel from the ancient freshwater lakes of Latvia and bring it to South African growers — from balcony gardeners to commercial farms.

Registered — and careful about it

SaproGro™ is a registered Group 2 liquid organic fertilizer — Reg. No. B6628, Act 36 of 1947 — and we treat that registration as a responsibility, not a formality. We keep our claims measured and our labelling honest, and SaproGro is safe for use around children, pets and pollinators at the approved label rate. Always use according to approved label directions.

Who we're for

We built BioAktiva for two kinds of grower: home gardeners who want healthier soil without harsh salts or guesswork, and trade buyers — farms, nurseries, co-operatives and resellers — who need consistent supply, wholesale pricing and agronomic support. Our dosage calculator and free soil analysis take the guesswork out for both.

A system, not a single product

SaproGro™ is the first piece of a much larger plan. BioAktiva is being built as a complete input platform — biostimulants, growing media and biological inputs designed to work together across the full life of a crop:

• SaproGro™ — our liquid sapropel biostimulant and soil conditioner. Available now.
• HumiGro™ — a peat-based growing-media and substrate range for propagation and plant establishment.
• MicroGro™ — a microbiological range in development, to be introduced once trials and registration are complete.
• VitAmino™ — a soil-recovery input, currently in registration and awaiting Act 36 approval.
